Our flight was delayed and we had enhanced passenger screening on our flight to Ft. Lauderdale. TSA agents were stationed right at the doors of the plane during boarding and they checked every passenger's photo ID before they were allowed on the plane. I have never seen that before.
Our flight was smooth. Ross napped and I read most of the way. Sweet Pea played her new Pokemon video game. When we landed, the airport was backed up and we had to sit on the runway 10-20 minutes before we could taxi to the gate.
The FLL airport was very busy and the hallways were crowded with delayed travelers sitting against the walls. Almost as soon as we landed an announcement came over the loudspeaker which said; "People who lost their licenses in the incident yesterday may pick them up on the lower level of the airport." There was a significantly increased security presence. I saw several police officers wielding large automatic rifles.
We had to walk about half a mile right along the road outside of terminal 1 to get to the hotel shuttles. Terminal 2 was closed which contributed to extremely heavy traffic. Ross called the Embassy Suites to request a pickup and they said the van was 5-10 minute away, but it didn't arrive for over 30 minutes because of the traffic. It was raining and unexpectedly cold. Mimi was freezing, so I had to give her my rain jacket.
When the shuttle finally picked us up we drove by the baggage claim area of terminal 2 on our way out of the airport. Many, but not all of the windows had been covered with paper to block the view. We were still able to see people completely covered in white hazmat suits putting things in giant red plastic bags. It was very disturbing.
Photos of the cleanup on TC Palm site.
Sweet pea was busy talking the whole time about the palm trees and did not notice anything amiss.
